Belgian harpist Lise Vandersmissen travels with her modern pedal harp and her Italian Triple Harp to perform across Europe and Asia. Last year she was one of the Young Artists at the main classical radio in Belgium: Klara Radio (De Twintigers), and she just won the Belgian classical radio competition for chamber music: Supernova, with her Aglica Trio. She recently completed a six-month residency in Hong Kong where she was teaching and performing at an international harp academy: HK Harp Music.
Lise was the Young Artist in Residence of the first edition of the early music festival “Intra Muros” in Belgium. She performed the Händel Harp Concerto on the Italian Triple Harp during the London Händel Festival 2023 with the London Händel Festival Orchestra. In June 2019, Lise gave the world premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s new piece for solo harp: Four Meditations, which was dedicated to her.
Lise just released her second solo album TRE, played on the Italian Triple Harp, under Etcetera Records and funded by the Belgian government.
Lise won Prizes including the First Prize at the 5th International Harp Competition in Slovenia, the Second Prize at the 5th International Harp Competition in Hungary and the Second Prize at the Camac London Harp Competition. She was awarded the Guildhall Harp Prize and was selected to be a Live Music Now musician, Concordia Foundation Artist and a UKHA Emerging Artist. She won a place at the London Sinfonietta Academy and the Académie Camac in France, and received the Culture Prize in Bilzen.
Lise graduated Magna cum Laude from her Bachelor’s Degree at LUCA School of Arts, Belgium with Lieve Robbroeckx, and with Great Distinction from her Master’s Degree at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London with Imogen Barford. Upon graduation, she completed a two- year Fellowship at the Guildhall.
Lise lives with her harps on a blue houseboat on the London canals. When she is not playing the harp, she loves to knit jumpers and run along the canal.
